Counter Measures Technology
WhiteRock is a recognised innovator in the global TSCM market. Our innovations range from the daily operational practices and infrastructure, to our role in developing breakthrough counter-measure products. One of our greatest challenges is the research and procurement of equipment that achieves what we want and delivers the integrity to our clients. Our research into surveillance and counter-measures equipment is captured in our unique internal database.
The key factor of our success in protecting and containing our clients’ information is primarily due to our significant investment in the very best equipment and technology that enables us to find what others miss. It should be understood that in the current TSCM market high-level investments into equipment are rare and courageous. We passionately believe that in order to adequately protect our clients and deliver tangible results, our equipment must be comprehensive, calibrated and constantly updated. We are confident that we have the largest, highest quality and most progressive equipment inventory in the TSCM market. As a result of this investment, WhiteRock has the power to provide a high quality service with tangible results.
We have a complete overview of the majority of counter measures equipment available in the world, and have tested all major and less-known brands of the OEMs of the TSCM equipment. Therefore, we can say that unfortunately most popular TSCM equipment brands fail to find devices and deliver tangible results.
A remarkable exception to this is ‘Rohde & Schwartz’, one of Europe’s largest test and measurement equipment manufacturers that produces extremely high quality detection equipment. Their new generation equipment is incredibly mobile and delivers tangible results without compromise. We are very proud about our long-term partnership with Rohde & Schwarz. Our latest investment is an amazing new down-conversion technology to analyse hi-frequency communications traffic in great detail with incredible accuracy and displays of information. We are still the first and only TSCM provider in Europe to use licenced thermal imaging as part of our routine TSCM tests and measurements. We decided to invest in the very best thermal equipment available in the world, which is so sensitive that it requires a protection by a license. Thermal equipment is an invaluable tool in detecting unauthorised devices in high ceilings and walls and other areas in buildings and vehicles that are difficult to reach as opposed to a labour-some (and therefore more expensive) physical search in challenging areas. In our research into the available thermal equipment in the market, our R&D team tested most of these, including the low and medium-end equipment, and concluded that only the high-end equipment is able to detect the minute heat sources in the unauthorised surveillance devices. For that reason, we decided to invest in the high-end technology, where the cost of equipment starts at £100,000. However, we now have five years worth of practical experience, and can say that the benefits and return on investment has now far outweighed the initial cost of WhiteRock’s thermal camera.
The NLJD or Non-Linear Junction Detector is probably the most popular piece of TSCM equipment. This is typically the first detection tool that a TSCM start-up would purchase. For that reason, the NLJD has the largest selection of brand variety available in the counter surveillance market. This in turn has led to creating significant confusion amongst receivers of the TSCM service as most clients are satisfied with the mere fact that their TSCM provider uses a NLJD. In our research over the past two decades we have concluded that only one NLJD is able to successfully detect the current threat of miniaturised unauthorised surveillance devices. Therefore, and in order to deliver results to our clients, we have replaced our entire stock of NLJDs with new powerful equipment, where a single unit costs up to £20,000.
The key to our success is not to be complacent with the continuous development of the technology and threats in the surveillance market. We have therefore set a really high bar to meet our clients’ expectations in terms of training and implementation. All our people work with a passion to excel in the use of WhiteRock’s know-how. Our learning helps us to move from building one R&D project to the next. This strategy means that as a service provider we make the best use of constantly evolving equipment and technology and this adds a greater value and benefit to our clients’ future in what we do best – countering unauthorised surveillance.
