Standards and Procurement
UK National Occupational Standard
Our principal goal is to develop and professionalise the counter commercial espionage sector globally. As a recent example, WhiteRock was a proactive member of the Skills for Security Working Group that developed the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for TSCM in the UK, which was completed and published in December 2009. The development of these standards is the first of its kind on a worldwide basis. Upon WhiteRock’s initiative, the same Working Group is now developing the establishment of a professional trade body for TSCM practitioners in the UK and Europe.
Benefits of NOS:
- High quality service: an assured level of professionalism. This consistency will be maintained through performance benchmarks and internal performance targets.
- Improved R&D: an industry that is more experienced is also better placed to deal with future threats. WhiteRock has a whole department devoted to the research and rapid mitigation of new and emergent threats. This department is something we are very proud of, and the development of the NOS should encourage the adoption of this practice throughout the industry.
- Standardisation: familiarity with TSCM firms following NOS guidelines will help clients to quickly recognise the difference between a first class provider and a rogue firm. This will assist in reducing money wasted from employing sub-standard outfits. In the past some providers used the secrecy inherent in TSCM as an excuse for apathy and poor dealings with their clients. This also resulted in an unwillingness to update the way these firms did business. However secrecy and confidentiality are two different things. Whilst maintaining client confidentiality is paramount, secrecy about working practices is just a convenient way to hide failures and mismanagement. The inception of the NOS will help to weed out these rogue outfits and one-man bands. It could be likened to a ‘Glasnost’ for TSCM providers.
- Compliance and rubber-stamping: many firms require regular TSCM inspections in order to meet mandatory in-house security requirements. All TSCM providers following the NOS guidelines will be familiar with compliance testing, codes of practice and regulatory matters. Choosing a skilled provider is the best way to make certain that all liability and insurance concerns are dealt with cost effectively.
- Comprehensive cover: TSCM firms are able to meet all your security requirements. It will provide peace of mind by demanding that every operative setting foot on your property is fully skilled and prepared for any eventuality.
- Greater efficiency: will help to eliminate competency issues, thereby eradicating wasted efforts from inexperienced staff. A more productive workforce will also mean savings that can be passed on to the client.
